Wk 1 – Intent Paper

Write a 350- to 500-word paper on your intent in beginning a doctoral program in which you:

• Discuss your intent or goal(s) for beginning a doctoral program.
• Discuss how your intent fits the Scholar-Practitioner-Leader^SM model.
• Identify a problem in your organization or industry that you might like to address using the knowledge you gain in the program.

 

Wk 3 – Signature Assignment – Literature Review

Choose four leadership theories that most resonate with you from the theories you read about this week.

Note: The readings this week only cover four contemporary leadership theories so please research to familiarize yourself with historical leaders and other contemporary leadership theories.

Write a 500- to 750-word literature review of the four theories you chose.

Identify a problem in your organization or industry. You can use the problem you identified in your Week 1 assignment or you can choose a different problem.

Choose one theory from the four you selected and discuss how a leader could apply the theory to address your identified problem.

Support your assertions with citations from at least three peer-reviewed articles.

Format your paper according to APA guidelines using the APA Paper Template.

Wk 4 – Case Study Analysis

Read Case 12.1 in Ch. 12, “Followership,” of Leadership: Theory and Practice.

Provide a detailed response to questions 3, 4, 5, and 6 presented at the end of the case.

Format your answers according to APA guidelines using the APA Paper Template.

Include APA-formatted in-text citations, a title page, and a references page.

Wk 5 – Signature Assignment – Leader Interview and Synthesis

Interview a leader in your organization or another organization.

Obtain a signed consent form from the interviewee.

Include the following questions in your interview. You must include the interviewee’s responses, citing the responses as a personal communication per the APA manual. You can add additional questions of your own if you choose.

• What can leaders do to inspire teams to perform at their best?
• What challenges do you face in maximizing team performance? What do you do to alleviate these challenges?
• What are the top 5 leadership skills for successfully building and leading teams?
• How do excellent leaders develop followership?
• What are some important decision-making strategies that leaders might use? Which of these strategies do you feel is most effective and why?
• What are some ethical concerns faced by leaders? How might you deal with these ethical concerns?

Write a 350- to 500-word synthesized discussion on team leadership based on this week’s readings and your interview

Wk 6 – Embracing Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace

Write a 350- to 525-word paper discussing the leadership implications of embracing diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Include a minimum of 3 peer-reviewed resources. The Northouse text may be used. The University Library has a wealth of peer-reviewed sources for your research as well.

Format your paper according to APA guidelines using the APA Paper Template.

Include APA-formatted in-text citations, a title page, and a references page.

Write a minimum 350-word paper on leadership ethics.

Include a minimum of 3 peer-reviewed resources. You may use your textbook or the selected resources from the University Library. Do not limit yourself to the selected resources as the University Library has a wealth of peer-reviewed sources for your research.

Wk 8 – Signature Assignment – Personal Leadership Development Plan

Write a 1,050- to 1,200-word paper in which you translate your course learning into a personal leadership development plan and explain how your plan aligns with the SPL Model. Your plan should define a strategy for maximizing your leadership effectiveness and should include the following components:

• Identify the leadership theory or theories that support your plan. You must integrate theory with citations from the literature to illustrate why the theory you chose supports your plan. Write this section in third person.
• Analyze your leadership strengths and weaknesses and what you will do to capitalize on your strengths and modify your weaknesses. Support your discussion of strengths and weaknesses with your scores on the interactive assessments.
• Identify gaps between the leader you are now and the leader you would like to become and how it aligns with the SPL Model.
• Describe detailed action items you will realistically implement to close gaps between the leader you are now and the leader you would like to become and a timeline for implementing action items.
